Rudolf Yondorf

Rudolf Yondorf, 78, of 235 Walker St., Kimball Farm Life Care Community, died yesterday morning at Berkshire Medical Center after a long battle with multiple myeloma.
He had resided at Kimball Farm since 2002.
Born in Nuremberg, Germany, on Nov. 22, 1925, son of Fred and Paula Sommer Yondorf, he emigrated to England in 1939 with a Children's Transport and to the United States with his parents in 1940. He graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in electrical engineering.
He moved to Lebanon, N.Y., in 1978.
An Army veteran, he served from 1944 to 1946 with the Third Infantry Division in the European theater, including in the Battle of the Bulge. He was transferred to Washington, D.C., where he was assigned to the State Department translation section until his discharge.
Mr. Yondorf was employed by GE for 41 years. He worked at the Syracuse (N.Y.) plant until 1975, when he transferred to the ordnance division in Pittsfield. He retired in 1991.
While in Lebanon, he was a member of the Planning Board for 20 years and chairman for 10 years. He also was involved with the Appalachian Trail Committee of the Berkshire chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club, serving as chairman for two terms and as treasurer until 2001, when ill health forced his retirement.
He also served as an usher at Tanglewood and enjoyed hiking and cross-country skiing.
He and his wife, the former Margot Lersy, were involved with the Berkshire Knapsackers, serving as hike leaders and program directors. They were married in 1975.
His first wife, the former Lilo Seidenberger, died in 1971.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Carol Moroz of Manlius, N.Y., and a sister, Gertrude Gurevitch of Boynton Beach, Fla.
FUNERAL SERVICE -- Services for Rudolf O. "Rudy" Yondorf will be private and at the convenience of the family.
