Emily M. Larkin

Emily M. Larkin, 98, of Melbourne Place assisted-living facility died yesterday morning at home.

Born in Lee on Jan. 12, 1906, daughter of Patrick J. and Mary Costello Larkin, she was a 1923 graduate of Lee High School. She also graduated from the former Northampton Commercial College.

She was an exceptional basketball player in both high school and college. She resided in Florence for most of her life, moving to Pittsfield four years ago.

Miss Larkin was employed for 41 years as administrative assistant to the chancellor of student affairs at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, retiring in 1976. Prior to that, she had worked at Smith College for four years.

She was a communicant of the Church of the Annunciation in Florence, where she was active in church affairs.

She leaves a nephew and four nieces.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Miss Emily M. Larkin will be Tuesday at 9 from ROCHE FUNERAL HOME in Lenox, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Mary's Church in Lee by the Rev. Anthony Cullen, administrative assistant.

Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours. Flowers are welcome and those who wish may make memorial donations to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 1240.

Miss Larkin is also survived by several grandnieces and -nephews and great-grandnieces and -nephews.
