Mary A. McDermott, 89, of 15 Marcella Ave. died yesterday morning at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Lenox on Aug. 8, 1915, daughter of Anthony and Josephine Zbnowski Smith, she attended schools in Lenox and was a resident of Pittsfield since 1941.
Mrs. McDermott was known for the cakes she baked and decorated for family and friends.
She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and worked its rectory for many years.
She also was involved in many charitable foundations and held offices with the Daughters of Isabella.
In addition to baking, she enjoyed traveling and bowling and was a member of the Song Birds Bowling League.
She was a Red Sox fan.
Her husband, Edward McDer mott II, whom she married April 19, 1941, died Dec. 28, 1971.
She leaves two sons, Edward McDermott III and Robert W. McDermott, both of Pittsfield; two daughters, JoAnn Stephenson of Birmingham, Ala., and Marybeth McDermott-Schneider of Denver; a sister, Stanislaus Smith of Lenox; four grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mrs. Mary A. McDermott died in Pittsfield on Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, with her family by her side. Beloved grandmother to Jill Holleran, Sherri Freeman, Edward McDermott IV and James McDermott.
The funeral will be Thursday, Aug. 12, at 10 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 in Sacred Heart Church by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, Aug. 11, from 4 to 7. If friends desire, donations may be made in her memory to Sacred Heart Church in care of the funeral home.
