Francis W. Delphia, 79, of 4 Mervyn St. died Saturday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on June 27, 1925, son of Moses and Bernice Delphia, he was educated in Pittsfield schools.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Delphia was employed as a braid operator at A.H. Rice Silk Mill for 43 years, retiring in 1987. After his retirement, he worked with his son who owns American Garage Door Sales.
He and his wife, the former Lillian D. Kross, also worked for 16 years as caretakers of Camp Bluebird on Richmond Shores.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and bowled in the City League at Candle Lanes for many years. He also was a pitcher for many years with the City League Baseball teams.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
He and his wife would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary Oct. 22. They were married in Richmond.
Besides his wife, he leaves five sons, James F. Delphia of Canton, Conn., Steven F. Delphia of Norman, Okla., Lee F. Delphia and Douglas F. Delphia, both of Pittsfield, and Thomas F. Delphia of Lanesboro; three daughters, June F. Delphia of Palm Springs, Calif., and Christine F. Larrow and Bonnie F. Carloti, both of Lee; a sister, Evelyn Griffin of Dalton; a brother, Donald Delphia of Vernon, Conn., and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Francis W. Delphia, 79, of Pittsfield died Aug. 7, 2004. There will be no services or calling hours. Mr. Delphia was predeceased by many brothers and sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, 01201, which is in charge of arrangements.
