Sophie S. Zawistowski

Sophie S. Zawistowski, 90, of 41D Highview Drive died Monday morning at Berkshire Medical Center.
She was an original owner of the Richmond Bakery.
Born in Fall River on March 14, 1914, daughter of Laurence and Apolonia Twarak Rebisz, she attended schools there. She lived in Pittsfield most of her life.
She and her husband, Walter Zawistowski, opened the bakery in Adams in 1951 and moved it to Wahconah Street in 1957. They remodeled the building in 1960 and sold the business in 1972.
Mrs. Zawistowski was a communicant of Holy Family Church and a member of the Polish Women's Alliance of America.
Her husband, whom she married June 5, 1937, in Holy Family Church, died Feb. 17, 1992.
She leaves a sister, Nellie Seremet of Pittsfield, and her caregivers, nephew James Nykorchuk and his wife, Susan, and niece Patricia Gavin, all of Pittsfield.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Sophie S. Zawistowski, original owner of Richmond Bakery, died Monday, July 26, 2004, at Berkshire Medical Center. The funeral will be tomorrow, July 29, at 8:30 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 in St. Joseph's Church by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 8 until the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Family Church in care of the funeral home. She was a loving aunt to James Nykorchuk, Patricia Gavin and Peter Seremet.
She also leaves her brothers-in-law, Stanley, Edward and Charles Zawistowski, and three sisters-in-law, Ann Ostrander, Sophie Zaccarri and Jean Burke.
