Cecile F. Valenti, 69, of 46 Cecelia Terrace died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center after a long illness.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 27, 1934, daughter of Ernest and Louise Cyr Sirois, she was a 1951 graduate of St. Joseph's High School.
She also graduated from the former Berkshire Business School in 1953.
Mrs. Valenti was employed as a bookkeeper for the Berkshire County chapter of the American Red Cross for 12 years, retiring in 1999 because of illness. Prior to that, she had worked at Berkshire Life Insurance Co. for several years and at the former Avco Loan Co. for 10 years.
She was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church. She was a member of Sons of Italy Itam Lodge 564, where she had been president, recording secretary, financial secretary and a member of the realty trust. She also was active in the fund-raising to build the lodge.
She enjoyed reading, traveling, playing bingo and going to casinos in Nevada and Connecticut.
She and her husband, Rosario C. Valenti, were married Oct. 18, 1958, in Notre Dame Church.
Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Angelo J. Valenti of Housatonic and Michael A. Valenti of Pittsfield; two sisters, Theresa Gargon of Port Orange, Fla., and Jean DeCarlo of Holly Hills, Fla., a grandchild and two stepgrandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Cecile F. Valenti, who died July 26, 2004, will be celebrated Friday, July 30, at 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. James Cunningham, CSS.
Calling hours will be tomorrow, July 29, from 4 to 7 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. Members of Sons of Italy Itam Lodge 564 of Pittsfield will meet at 6 for a ritual service. Memorial donations may be made to the Cecile F. Valenti Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Danielle Louise Valenti, and two stepgrandchildren, Justin and Taryn Daigle; a daughter-in-law, Joann Valenti, and a former daughter-in-law, Laura Louise Valenti. She was predeceased by a sister, Irene Ditello.
