Sister Eleanor Haskell of the Sisters of Providence, also known as Sister Mary Magdalen de Pazzi, 74, formerly of Pittsfield, died yesterday at the Sisters of Providence Infirmary in Holyoke.
Born in Pittsfield on July 8, 1930, daughter of James and Margaret O'Connor Haskell, she was a 1951 graduate of the former St. Luke's School of Nursing. She graduated in 1967 from Boston College with a bachelor of science degree in nursing.
She entered the Sisters of Providence in 1951.
A registered nurse, Sister Eleanor was supervisor of the intensive and critical care units at Providence Hospital in Holyoke for 12 years. She first was a nurse and clinical supervisor at Providence, Brightside children's center in Holyoke and Mercy Hospital in West Springfield.
In 1980, she was appointed coordinator for the Sisters of Providence, living at St. Mary's Residence in Northampton. Following her retirement, she was a driver and companion for other sisters until 2000.
She leaves a sister, Dorothy Pezze of Schenectady, N.Y.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Sister Eleanor Haskell, who died July 27, 2004, also leaves her nieces Nancy Serridge, Ida Patella and Mary Patella, all of Pittsfield, and Kathleen Jackson of Altamont, N.Y.; her nephew, Anthony Patella of Pittsfield, and her Sisters in Community.
The wake will be held today, July 28, from 3 to 7:30 at Providence Place, 5 Gamelin St., Holyoke. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated tomorrow, July 29, at 10 in the Providence Place Chapel.
DILLON FUNERAL HOME, 124 Chestnut St., Holyoke, has been entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of Providence, 5 Gamelin St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
