Robert Edmund Moore, 78, of 68 Gravesleigh Terrace died Saturday evening at Tanglewood after being stricken while attending a performance.
Born in West Orange, N.J., on Dec. 11, 1925, son of Edmund J. and Helen Meyer Moore, he graduated from the former Newark College of Engineering, now the New Jersey Institute of Technology, with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1948.
He received his master's degree in chemical engineering in 1950 and a master's degree in engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York.
An Army veteran of World War II, he enlisted in 1944 and served as a chemist with the 9817th Technical Service Unit. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
Mr. Moore was employed by GE for more than 30 years, retiring in 1986 as an engineering program manager in the naval ordnance division.
He was a member of the GE Pensioners' and Quarter Century clubs and the Elfun Society.
He was a longtime first-aid volunteer at Tanglewood and was active with the Boy Scouts, including as a representative of the Great Trails Council.
Mr. Moore was interested in other cultures and international relations, hosting students from Williams College's School for Development Economics for more than 25 years. He also traveled to many Third World countries and was active with the International Executive Consulting Corps.
He was a member of the art club at the Berkshire Museum and of the Republican National Committee.
He enjoyed listening to the Boston Symphony Orchestra and playing solitare.
His wife, the former Leona Ann Levey, whom he married in 1952, died in December 2002.
He leaves a son, James D. Moore of Hope, N.J., and two granddaughters.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Robert E. Moore, 78, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Tanglewood. The funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 11 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. William Furey.
Burial will be at a later date in Rosedale Cemetery, West Orange, N.J. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7. He also is survived by his loving granddaughters, Katherine and Victoria Moore, and daughter-in-law, Mary Moran Moore.
In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America in care of the funeral home.
