Thomas A. Killion, 71, of 84 Burke Ave. died Sunday morning at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on March 23, 1933, son of Thomas E. and Jennie M. Auernig Killion, he was a 1952 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
A Navy veteran of the Korean War, he served aboard the USS John W. Weeks and was awarded several medals.
Mr. Killion founded TAK Inc., a general contracting firm, which built many KB Toys stores throughout the United States. He retired in 1999.
Before that, he worked at the former J.J. Newberry's, Prudential Insurance Co. and Signet Corp.
He attended St. Charles' Church and was an avid fisherman.
He and his wife, the former Elaine Vallone Mole, were married Oct. 27, 1995.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Candace M. Killion of Lenox; a son, Thomas M. Killion of Pittsfield; two stepsons, John M. Mole Jr. of Lenox and Robert R. Mole of Lanesboro; a stepdaughter, Karen Mole-Scholz of Cheshire; two sisters, Ruth Gerber and Dorothy Bastow, both of Pittsfield, and a grandchild. He also leaves his former wife, Katherine A. Creran.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Thomas A. Killion died in Pittsfield on Sunday, July 25, 2004. Beloved grandfather to Julia R. Mole and loving uncle to several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be tomorrow, July 28, at 9:30 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Charles' Church by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours for family and close friends will be Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:30 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lee Visiting Nurse Association, the Lee Middle School PTO for a fishing derby in his memory or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, all in care of the funeral home.
He also leaves a stepdaughter-in-law, Marie Farrell Mole, and a stepson-in-law, Kurt W. Scholz. He was predeceased by a brother, Francis Killion, and a sister, Mary Tortatice Meunier.
