Julia Marvis LeVitre Brown

Julia Marvis LeVitre Brown, 84, formerly of 381 West Housatonic St., died Thursday evening at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield, where she had resided since September 2002.

Born in Pittsfield on July 20, 1920, daughter of Joseph H. and Irene F. Packard LeVitre, she attended schools in Pittsfield and graduated in 1939 from Pittsfield High School and also was a graduate of the former Berkshire Business College.

Mrs. Brown was employed at the former Howard Johnson's Restaurant in Lenox.

She later worked as a winder for General Electric for 34 1/2 years, retiring in 1976.

She was a communicant of Saint Mark's Church and a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Pittsfield.

She enjoyed the ocean, wintering at her vacation cottage in Vero Beach, Fla., and writing letters to her family.

Her husband, James Joseph Brown Jr., whom she married April 30, 1946, at Notre Dame Church in Pittsfield, died February 9, 1995.

She leaves two nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service for Julia M. Brown, who died July 22, 2004, will be held Monday at 10 at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Section 15, with the Rev. John Salatino, pastor of St. Mark's Church officiating. Calling hours at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., will be Sunday from 2 to 6.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.

She is survived by her two loving nephews, Gordon Taylor of Pittsfield and David C. Audette of Merrimack, N.H. She is also survived by her nephew David's wife Rosemary Audette, whom she always introduced as her niece; her sister-in-law by marriage and dearest friend, Helen Ryan Brown of Pittsfield, her friends at Devonshire Estates in Lenox and many other friends, neighbors and relatives.

She was predeceased by a brother Joseph LeVitre and a sister, Leona Audette.
