William L. Brites

William L. Brites, 77, of 23 New Hampshire Ave. died Tuesday at home after a short illness.
Born Nov. 7, 1926, in Bridgeport, Conn., son of Jose and Ethelynne Cravinho Brites, he was a 1947 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
A World War II veteran, he served for three years in the Navy in the Pacific theater aboard the aircraft carrier USS Boxer.
Mr. Brites was employed at General Electric in the power transformer department as an electrical techman, retiring in 1986 after 40 years of service.
He was a winter resident of Panama City Beach, Fla., for many years.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and a member of the GE Athletic Association, Quarter Century, Pensioners' and Quality Time clubs.
He was also a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fleet Club in Panama City Beach, Fla.
An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and also traveling.
He leaves his wife, the former Mary T. Geerholt, whom he married June 21, 1952.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Richard Brites and David Brites of Pittsfield, and James Brites of Lynn Haven, Fla., a sister Elaine Pascetta of Pittsfield and six grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Following cremation, a memorial service for Mr. William L. Brites will be held Monday, July 26, 2004, at noon at the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, with Deacon James Hagar of Sacred Heart church officiating. Calling hours will be the day of the service from 10 to 12 with the service to follow.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Among survivors are his grandchildren, Christopher and Kelsey of Lynn Haven, Fla., Katherine, Matthew, Mark and Genevieve, all of Pittsfield, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to either the Berkshire Benevolent Association for the Blind or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield.
