Wallace H. Smelzer

Wallace H. Smelzer, 73, of 7 Claremont Road died Friday at home.

Born in Albany, N.Y., on Sept. 5, 1930, son of Phillip H. and Margaret H. Movejon Smelzer, he was a 1948 graduate of Albany High School.

He served one year in the Navy.

Mr. Smelzer had been employed by GE as a layout machinist for 40 years, retiring in 1990.

He was an active member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pittsfield.

His wife, the former Virginia F. Goyette, whom he married July 2, 1955, died Jan. 1, 1995.

He leaves a niece and three nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Wallace H. Smelzer, who died July 16, 2004, will be conducted Thursday at 11 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Holmes Road, Pittsfield, by the Rev. Harold Hoeppner, pastor.

Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery, Dalton. Calling hours will be today, July 21, from 4 to 7 at BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, Dalton. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Evelyn Humphrey; niece and godchild, Wendy Perroots; three nephews, Wayne K. Humphrey Sr., Keith and his wife, Patricia, Humphrey and Evan S. Humphrey; a grandnephew, Wayne K. Humphrey Jr.; two grandnieces, Renee A. Humphrey and Fallon M. Ruzzi, and a great-grandniece, Shaylee M. Myers, all of New York state.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
