Catherine M. Anderson, 84, of 140 Melbourne Road, Epoch Assisted Living, died Wednesday at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox, where she had resided for a short time.
She had lived in Pittsfield and later in Falmouth, returning to Pittsfield three years ago.
Born in Westfield on Jan. 27, 1920, daughter of Patrick and Bridget Griffin Crean, she was a 1938 graduate of St. Mary's School. She also graduated from Westfield State College in 1942.
An educator, Mrs. Anderson taught in middle and high schools in Peru, Auburn, Westfield and Pittsfield for over 40 years, retiring from Pittsfield High School in 1978. She had also been a principal in Granville.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in both Pittsfield and Westfield. While in Falmouth, she was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church and a member of its Women's Guild.
She was active in the Senior Center and volunteered with the Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
She enjoyed family gatherings, traveling, bird watching, bowling, knitting and sewing.
Her husband of 43 years, Harold F. Anderson, died in March 1987.
She leaves four sons, James Anderson and David Anderson, both of Pittsfield, Neil Anderson and Edward Anderson, both of Falmouth; two daughters, Kathleen Arth of Falmouth and Ellen Erhard of Marstons Mills, and 16 grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Funeral Mass for Catherine Anderson will be celebrated Monday, July 19, at noon in St. Patrick's Church, Main Street, Falmouth.
Burial will follow in the V.A. National Cemetery of Massachusetts in Bourne. A visiting hour will be Monday from 10:30 to 11:30 at the CHAPMAN, COLE & GLEASON FUNERAL HOME, 475 Main St., Route 28, Falmouth Center.
