Mildred Schechtman, 82, of East 20th Street, New York City, mother of Gayle Schechtman of Pittsfield, died Monday afternoon at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital in Manhattan, N.Y.
Born in Lansford, Pa., on Jan. 12, 1922, daughter of Samuel and Bessie Pearlman Kristel, she grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she attended local schools.
Mrs. Schechtman worked as a bookkeeper for various businesses in the garment industry in New York for many years.
She also had worked at performing arts schools and as a model in newspaper and magazine advertisements.
She enjoyed oil painting, traveling, music and opera.
Besides her daughter, she leaves another daughter, Pamela Schechtman of Cambridge, and a brother, Eugene Kristel of Allentown, Pa.
FUNERAL NOTICE-- A private graveside funeral service for Mildred Schechtman, who died July 12, 2004, will be conducted at Pittsfield Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
Those who wish may make donations in her memory to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main Street, Lenox, Mass., 01240.
