Charles Sidney Rice

Charles Sidney Rice, 74, of 140 Dalton Ave., formerly of Hull Avenue, died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Becket on Jan. 26, 1930, son of Charles D and Agnes Broga Galliher Rice, he attended schools there.
He served in the Army.
Mr. Rice was in the antiques business for more than 40 years, selecting pieces for and selling pieces to dealers. In the early 1960s, he and his wife, the former Margaret M. Janssen, owned and operated Dalton Tropical Fish.
He also had worked for Crane & Co. in Dalton and had been a department manager at the former Big N department store.
He collected antique clocks and enjoyed sitting in his yard, going for rides and visiting York Beach, Maine. In his earlier years, he enjoyed hunting.
He and his wife had celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary July 7. They were married in St. Joseph's Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Robert C. Rice of Pittsfield; a daughter, Margaret "Bunny" Rice of Pittsfield; two sisters, Marlene Janssenof Ormond Beach, Fla., and Eleanor Andrus of Pittsfield, and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Charles Sidney Rice, who died July 12, 2004, will be conducted Thursday, July 15 at 11 at DERY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. William D. Furey.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow, July 14, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Mr. Rice was predeceased by two half-brothers, Hugh Galliher and Richard Galliher, both late of Westfield, and a sister, Mabel Fuller, late of Lee.
He leaves his daughter-in-law, Kathleen F. Rice; his two grandchildren, Matthew R. Rice of Bennington, Vt., and Erinn K. Rice of Cheshire, to whom he was known as "papa"; four brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
