Ruth E. Coty, 80, of Rose Manor died Wednesday at Berkshire Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Newbury, Vt., on Aug. 2, 1923, daughter of Alvah W. and Alice Proulx Dresser, she was educated in Pittsfield schools and later studied computers at Berkshire Community College.
Mrs. Coty was a bookkeeper, working at local department stores and for the former Stockpot Restaurant in Stockbride, from which she retired in 1979. She then was a bookkeeper for Sagris and Arendt Restorations from 1980 to 1987.
She also waitressed at restaurants throughout the county, including the former Busy Bee.
She enjoyed shopping, bingo, reading and watching wildlife.
Her former husband, John C. Cockrill, whom she married in 1939, died in 1990.
Her husband, Leslie "Peanut" Coty, whom she married in 1954, died Aug. 9, 1989.
She leaves a daughter, Linda L. Cockrill Korrecta of Ocala, Fla.; a sister, Barbara Crespi of Pittsfield; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. A son, Jock A. Cockrill, died Jan. 30, 1990.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service for Ruth E. Dresser Coty, 80, who died July 7, 2004, willl be held at a later date in East Nassau (N.Y.) Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
She also is survived by two nieces, Doreen Magnano and Donna LeClair; a nephew, Marc Crespi, and her good friend Bob Arendt of Pittsfield. DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME has been entrusted with the arrangements.
