Jane Pierson Welton

Jane Pierson Welton, 90, of 100 Alliance Way, Manchester, N.H., formerly of State Road, died June 29 at The Arbors of Bedford (N.H.), where she had resided for six weeks.

Born in Pittsfield on April 7, 1914, daughter of Emery J. and Grace Langdon Mills, she was a 1932 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1934 graduate of the former Bishop Memorial School of Nursing.

She moved to Manchester in 1999.

Mrs. Welton was employed as a nurse by GE in Pittsfield for 43 years, retiring at age 65. She then worked at Crane & Co. in Dalton until age 70.

She was a member of First Church of Christ Congregational of Pittsfield, and a member and past president of the Berkshire County Industrial Nurses' Association and of the Bishop Memorial Alumni Association, where she also served on the board of directors several times.

She was a member and former secretary of the Friendly Circle of Richmond Congregational Church, a member and former treasurer of the DAR Peace Party chapter, and a former Berkshire County chairman of the National Polio Foundation.

Her husband, Dr. Donald H. Welton, whom she married May 17, 1941, died Jan. 24, 1999.

She leaves two daughters, Luella A. LaBrant of Rockford, Ill., and Anne J. Cherniack of Derry, N.H.; two sisters, Rosemary E. May of Wenatchee, Wash., and Elizabeth A. Mills-Smith of Lancaster, Ky.; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Jane Pierson Mills Welton will be held Wednesday, July 7, at 1 at Hillcrest Terrace Retirement Community in Manchester, N.H. There will be no calling hours. Another service will be held in Pittsfield at a later date.

Burial will be in Pittsfield Cemetery. Among survivors are her grandchildren, Donald LaBrant, Andrea Carter, Heather Cherniack and John Cherniack. If friends desire, donations are suggested to the Pearl Manor Social Events Fund, 100 Alliance Way, Manchester, NH 03102. WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME of Pittsfield is in charge of arrangements.
