Francis P. Rodrigues, 82, of 14 Ensign Ave. died Saturday evening at home.
Born in Taunton on Nov. 27, 1921, son of John and Hilda Luz Rodrigues, he was a 1941 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He attended Providence College and later earned both a bachelor's degree with honors and a master's degree in education from the former North Adams State College, now MCLA, where he was a member of the Frank Fuller Murdock Honor Society.
He received a DNEA grant for further studies in English at Rutgers University and earned a master of arts degree, majoring in English, from the University of Massachusetts.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Mr. Rodrigues was a vocational counselor at Taconic High School, retiring in 1985. He also taught English at the former South Junior High School. He began his teaching career at Wethersfield (Conn.) Junior High School, where he worked for a semester before returning to Pittsfield.
He was a communicant and lector at St. Mary's Church, and a member of the Pittsfield Teachers Federation, Berkshire County Association of Counselors, Berkshire Hills Country Club and the State, County and Municipal Employees Association. He was also a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He and his wife, the former Anne E. Sturgeon, were married June 7, 1947.
Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Kathleen Clancy of Westerly, R.I., Theresa Rodrigues of Pittsfield and Ann Marie Mueller of Baesweiler, Germany; a sister, Marion West of Pittsfield, and two granddaughters.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Francis P. Rodrigues died in Pittsfield on Saturday, July 3, 2004. Beloved grandfather to Sarah Clancy and Zoe Mueller. The funeral will be Thursday, July 8, at 9:30 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 at St. Mary's Church by the Rev. Paul Bombardier, pastor.
Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 7, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
He also leaves two sons-in-law, Anthony Clancy and Arno Mueller, and Fred Marzullo, longtime companion of his daughter Theresa Rodrigues.
