Gary Allen Tate, 50, of 10 Poplar Ave., Shalimar, Fla., formerly of Pittsfield, died June 29 at home after a battle with lung cancer.
Born in Pittsfield on March 8, 1954, son of Wade D. and Betty L. Barstow Tate, he graduated in 1972 from Pittsfield High School, where he excelled in basketball.
Mr. Tate was a cruise director for Holland American cruise line.
He leaves a daughter, Margo Tate Berkoff of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Donna J. Filpi of Shalimar, with whom he had resided since March; two brothers, Wade William Tate of Norwich, Conn., and Jon Edward Tate of San Diego.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- As per Gary's wishes, his body will be cremated and his ashes scattered on the ocean, which he loved. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, David Wade Tate.
He also is survived by his brother-in-law, Vincent A. Filpi Jr. of Shalimar, Fla., with whom he made his home, and two nephews, William and Eric-John Tate, both of Norwich, Conn.
