Irving Schechtman

Irving Schechtman, 88, formerly of 318 Onota St., died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.
He had resided in Pittsfield since 2000.
Born in New York City on March 13, 1916, son of Sam and Bessie Epstein Schechtman, he attended schools there.
A professional singer in his younger years, he studied voice in New York and performed and recorded records under the stage name of Mark Leslie.
He entertained at resorts in the Catskills and at restaurants in New York City.
During World War II, he performed in the USO.
In his later years, he owned restaurants in Newark, N.J., and Manhattan, retiring in 1992. He also resided in Miami for many years.
He leaves a daughter, Gayle L. Schechtman of Pittsfield, and a sister, Reba Weine of Long Island, N.Y.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A private graveside funeral service for Irving Schechtman will be conducted at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial donations to The Berkshire Humane Society in care of the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
