Charles Antoine Laframboise

Charles Antoine Laframboise, 94, of 36 Hamlin St. died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in North Adams on May 22, 1910, son of Francois and Caroline Gregoire Laframboise, his family moved to Canada when he was 2, and he returned to the United States in 1946. He was self-taught.

A general contractor, he owned and operated Laframboise Contracting, a custom home-building and renovation business from 1948 until 1973. Previously, he had worked in a cotton factory, on the St. Lawrence Seaway and in a munitions plant.

Mr. Laframboise was a communicant of Notre Dame Church and served on its parish council for 10 years. During the 1960s, he was in charge of the maintenance and restoration of the church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He also was a member of the National Campers and Hikers Association, and enjoyed baseball, hockey and traveling.

His wife, the former Juliette Lajeunesse, whom he married in 1936, died July 26, 1973.

He leaves a daughter, Dianne Laframboise-Berry of Calgary, Alberta, and three grandsons.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Charles Antoine Laframboise, who died Sunday, June 27, 2004, will be tomorrow, July 2, at 8:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at Notre Dame Church by the Rev. Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. He also leaves his son-in-law, L. Doug Berry, and his grandsons Scott and his wife, Sara, and Geoffrey and Christopher, and his traveling companion, Frances Bouchard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. He received no formal schooling and took pride in being a self-taught man.
