Bertha J. Payne, 68, of 120 Onota St. died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Orange, Vt., on Oct. 11, 1935, daughter of Wesley and Clara Carleton North, she was educated in schools in Barre, Vt., and in Hartford, Conn., where she graduated from Hartford High School in 1954.
After graduation, Mrs. Payne worked for a short time as a bank teller in Hartford. From 1985 to 2000, she was employed as a supervisor for Gerber Scientific in Manchester, Conn.
She moved to Pittsfield in 2003.
Her husband, Bernard Payne, died in November 2002.
She leaves a son, William H. Johndro of Lee; a daughter, Monique J. Capuano of Orange, Conn.; a brother, Wesley North of St. Johnsbury, Vt.; a sister, Hattie Beech of Barre, and a grandson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The family of Bertha Payne will receive friends Thursday, July 1, from 5 to 8 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family in Barre, Vt.
Friends wishing may make donations to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238. She leaves her loving grandson, Michael Capuano, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, George North.
