Lewis E. Knollmeyer

Lewis E. Knollmeyer, 95, of Pocasset, a former resident of Pittsfield, died Friday at Falmouth Hospital.
Born in Schenectady, N.Y., in November 1908, son of Louis F. and Kathryn Ryan Knollmeyer, he graduated in 1926 from New Haven (Conn.) High School and in 1930 from Yale University, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree.
He received both his master's degree and doctorate in philosophy from the University of Wisconsin.
A full colonel, Mr. Knollmeyer served in the Air Force in both World War II and the Korean War. He was a controller for SAC Air Force Base for 20 years active and six years in the reserve.
He taught at the University of Maine and the University of Vermont and retired from Rand Corp. as a consultant in Santa Monica, Calif.
He had resided in New York, Pittsfield, New Haven, Vermont, Maine, California and Japan before retiring to Pocasset in 1972.
His wife, the former Mildred Stephen, is deceased.
He leaves two sisters, Elaine Knollmeyer and Isabelle Knollmeyer, both of Pittsfield, and a brother, Roger Knollmeyer of East Sandwich.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Lewis E. Knollmeyer, 95, of Pocasset died June 25, 2004. Husband of the late Mildred Stephen Knollmeyer. Brother of Roger Knollmeyer of East Sandwich and Elaine and Isabelle Knollmeyer, both of Pittsfield. Also survived by 17 nieces and nephews. Predeceased by two brothers, Donald and Paul Knollmeyer.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday, June 30, from 6 to 9 at NICKERSON-BOURNE FUNERAL HOME, 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 1, at 11 at St. John the Evangelist Church on Shore Road in Pocasset. Burial will follow in Pocasset Cemetery.
