Margaret F. McGowan, 97, formerly of 123B Highview Drive, died Monday at Hillcrest Commons.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 16, 1906, daughter of Jeremiah and Margaret Meehan Hyland, she attended Stearns and Pomeroy schools.
A homemaker, Mrs. McGowan was employed at the former Eaton Paper Co. in her younger years.
She was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and formerly, for 38 years, of St. Mark's Church, where she was member of the Rosary Sodality.
She also was a member of the Golden Seniors Club.
She enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Her husband, William P. McGowan, whom she married Aug. 7, 1934, died Aug. 15, 1995.
She leaves a daughter, Margaret "Peggy" M. Biron of Lee, five grandchildren and a great-grandson. Her son, William P. McGowan Jr., died Jan. 29, 2000.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Margaret F. McGowan, 97, died Monday, June 21, 2004. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 in St. Mark's Church by the Rev. John Salatino, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 8:30 until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. Margaret also was the beloved mother-in-law to Liz McGowan and Gilbert Biron. She was a cherished aunt to her nieces and nephews.
She leaves her grandchildren, Patrick and Michael McGowan, Celeste, Brendan and Bradford Biron, and her great-grandson, Kevin McGowan. She was predeceased by her grandson, Jules Brendan Biron, on Oct. 23, 1974; a brother, Jeremiah Hyland, and three sisters, Kate McDonough, Mary Thebodeau and Elizabeth Ames.
