Armand E. Walger

Armand E. Walger, 88, of 44 Springside Ave. died Tuesday afternoon at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility, where he had resided for two weeks.
Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 24, 1915, son of Emile and Adele Rimbold Walger, he was a 1934 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the postal division from 1944 to 1946 in Italy.
Mr. Walger was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 42 years in Pittsfield, retiring in 1983 as superintending engineer, responsible for operations and maintenance of post office facilities.
He was a communicant of St. Charles' Church.
He and his wife, the former Regina Mierzejewski, celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary Feb. 3. They were married in Holy Family Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Armand L. Walger and Eric J. Walger, both of Pittsfield; two daughters, Christine Jordan of Lenox and Bernadette A. Unsworth of Dalton, six grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Another daughter, Valerie Walger, died May 6, 1963.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Armand E. Walger, 88, died in Pittsfield on Tuesday, June 8, 2004. The funeral will be Friday, June 11, at 9:15 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 in St. Charles' Church by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, June 10, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, who provided loving care to Armand in his final days.
He was predeceased by a sister, Jeanette Walger, in 1935.
