Mary Patricia Plankey

Mary Patricia Plankey, 72, of Rose Manor, formerly of 19 Crystal St., died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 3, 1931, daughter of James J. Casey Sr. and Mabel Latrell Casey, she graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1949.

She had resided on Crystal Street for 25 years.

Mrs. Plankey was employed in the advertising department of The Berkshire Eagle for 12 years, retiring in 1993. From 1953 to 1968, she was employed by the former Adams Super Market as a meat wrapper.

She also worked for the city as a school crossing guard on Francis Avenue and at the corner of West and South Onota streets.

She was a communicant of St. Mark's Church.

She enjoyed ceramics, reading and going to tag sales.

Her husband, Robert E. Plankey Sr., whom she married June 26, 1950, in Pittsfield, died Oct. 26, 1991.

She leaves three sons, Richard E. Plankey Jr. and Francis J. Plankey, both of Pittsfield, and Kevin M. Plankey of Reading; a daughter, Alicia M. Plankey of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a brother, Robert Casey of Escondido, Calif., and eight grandchildren. Another son, James E. Plankey, died Jan. 13, 1995.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mary Patricia Plankey, who died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, will be Friday, June 11, at 8:45 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9:30 at St. Mark's Church by the Rev. John C. Salatino, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today, June 10, from 4 to 7. Mrs. Plankey loved spending time with her eight grandchildren, James E. Plankey Jr., Corey R. Plankey, Christopher J. Plankey, Matthew H. Reardon, Jaclyn P. Reardon, Cody J. Plankey, Emily A. Reardon and Mia C. Plankey.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Francis, James, Kenneth and John Casey. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Berkshire Medical Center Cancer Research Center in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
