Doris M. Spezzaferro

Doris M. Spezzaferro, 80, formerly of Rose Manor, died yesterday at Springside of Pittsfield, where she had resided since September 2000.

Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 26, 1923, the daughter of Wyatt and L. Knight and Agnes M. Clapper Knight Chilton, she was a 1940 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

Primarily a homemaker, she had been employed as a front-desk clerk at the YMCA for 10 years. During World War II, she worked at GE for several years. Before that, she worked at the former Rose Nursing Home.

Mrs. Spezzaferro was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church.

She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, crafts and reading.

Her husband, Cosmo A. Spezzaferro Sr., whom she married June 25, 1946, died April 20, 1988.

She leaves two sons, Cosmo A. Spezzaferro Jr. of Washington, a retired Pittsfield Police captain, and Mario Spezzaferro of Pittsfield; four sisters, Marilyn Gelpi and Grace Kuvent, both of Pittsfield, Barbara LaGrant of Lee and Shirley Robinson of Worthington; two brothers, Ralph Chilton and James Chilton, both of Pittsfield; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Doris Knight Spezzaferro will be Monday, June 7, at 10 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., with the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor of Mount Carmel Church, officiating. Following cremation, burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Calling hours will be Monday, June 7, from 8:30 until the time of the funeral. Beloved Mother of retired Pittsfield Police Captain Cosmo A. Spezzaferro Jr. and his wife, Nancy, and Mario Spezzaferro.

Loving grandmother of Tracy Autenrieth and Antoinette Spezzaferro and loving great-grandmother of Brittany Spezzaferro, Taner Autenrieth and Kathleen Autenrieth. Predeceased by a sister, Anna Wixsom, and a brother, Wyatt Knight.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Western Mass. Regional Office, in care of the funeral home.
