Ivy Alice Suriner, 98, formerly of 43 Renee Drive, died Friday at Craneville Place of Dalton, where she had resided for six years.
Born in Hammersmith, England, on Jan. 11, 1906, daughter of George H. and Elizabeth Spencer Mitchell, she came to the United States as an infant with her family in 1906 and lived in Long Island City, N.Y.
She lived there until her teens, when her family relocated to Berkshire County, where she lived in Berkshire Village and then moved to Dalton.
Primarily a homemaker, she worked as a sorter at Crane & Co. until she met and married her husband.
She was a member of the Dalton United Methodist Church. In her later years, she was well-known for her hand-embroidering for churches and other organizations. She also worked as a domestic in many area homes.
She enjoyed cooking, flower gardening and sewing.
Her husband, Arthur W. Suriner, whom she married Aug. 2, 1927, died Nov. 16, 1960.
She leaves a son, William A. Suriner of Dalton; a brother, Frederick E. Mitchell of Lakeland, Fla.; three grandsons, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Ivy A. Suriner, who died May 28, 2004, will be Wednesday, June 2, at 11 at the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St., with the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor of St. Agnes' Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders in care of the funeral home.
Mrs. Suriner is lovingly survived by her three grandsons, Stephen, Craig and Brian Suriner; by her five great-grandchildren, Brett, Willie, Joseph, Kristie and Elizabeth Suriner; by her great-great-granddaughter, Rachel Olds; by her devoted daughter-in-law Mary T. Suriner, and by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, George H. Mitchell, and by two sisters, Elizabeth Phieffer and Caroline Stottle.
