Paul J. Cain Sr

Paul J. Cain Sr., 62, of 11 Jolindy Road died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 16, 1941, son of Francis and Helen McDarby Cain, he was educated in local schools and received an associate's degree in fire science from Berkshire Community College.

He had resided in Richmond for 32 years.

An Army veteran, he served as a signal messenger in Europe and was discharged in 1962.

Mr. Cain was employed by the Pittsfield Fire Department for 20 years, retiring in 1992 with the rank of lieutenant. He was the co-owner and operator of the former Tidy Car Cleaning in Pittsfield from 1980 to 1987.

He was a former communicant of St. Patrick's Church in West Stockbridge.

An accomplished cook, he also enjoyed gardening, Irish music and was proud of his Irish heritage.

He and his wife, the former Sandra A. Pugliese, were married Jan. 5, 1963, in St. Anthony's Church in North Adams.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Paul J. Cain Jr. of Lee; two daughters, Kelley Ann Cain of Pittsfield and Shannon Marie Cain of Newport, R.I.; a brother, David Cain of Boca Raton, Fla., and two sisters, Ann Burke of Dalton and Suzanne Angelo of Birmingham, Ala.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Paul J. Cain Sr., beloved husband and father who died May 29, 2004, will be held Thursday at 10:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 at St. Mark's Church by the Rev. John Salatino, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Paul was predeceased by a brother, Gerald Cain of Northampton. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Christian Center in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
