Florence B. Harper

Florence B. Harper, 77, of Melbourne Place died Wednesday afternoon at Timberlyn Heights Nursing Center in Great Barrington, where she had resided for the past few months.

She was also a former resident of 32 Hull Ave.

Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 9, 1926, daughter of Alphonse A. and Aldora Hebert Laurin, she was a 1943 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

She had been employed as a cafeteria worker in the Pittsfield Public Schools for 10 years. Earlier, she worked in the GE canteen.

Mrs. Harper was a communicant of Notre Dame Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of its Ladies of St. Anne. She also volunteered for the Catholic Charities and the American Heart Association.

She enjoyed walking, cross country skiing, playing board games and taking care of her dogs.

Her husband, Carson T. Harper, whom she married Aug. 10, 1946, died Aug. 31, 1988.

She leaves three sons, Thomas M. Harper of Pittsfield, Bruce D. Harper of Great Barrington and Kevin C. Harper of Ormond Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Kathleen M. McNeil of Sarasota, Fla.; two brothers, Albert Laurin of Pittsfield and Raymond Laurin of Plainville, Conn.; two sisters, Teresa Dayton of Lenox and Aurora Cox of St. Louis, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Florence B. Laurin Harper, who died Wednesday, May 26, was predeceased by a brother, Maurice W. Harper, and two sisters, Annette and Margaret. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 29, 2004, at 8:15 from the DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at Notre Dame Church, celebrated by the Rev. Kish V. Max, parochial vicar.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Friday, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
