Jean W. Scott, 80, of 52 Pease Ave. died Sunday at home.
She had resided in Hinsdale from 1965 to 2003 at 38 Country Road.
Born in Annona, Texas, on Jan. 13, 1924, daughter of Virgil R. and Eunice Smith Webb, she was a 1941 graduate of Annona High School. She also attended Paris (Texas) Junior College and graduated from the former North Adams State College in 1970.
A teacher from 1966 to 1991, Mrs. Scott taught at Peru Center School, then at Kittredge School.
She was a member of Hinsdale Congregational Church, where she served on the board of deacons for many years. She was the first woman moderator of the church and in the state of Massachusetts.
She was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the Hinsdale Book Club. A pianist and organist, she also enjoyed cross-country snowshoeing and tai chi.
For many years, she supported the Save the Children Fund.
Her husband, Ethan A. Scott, whom she married Jan. 27, 1944, died March 20, 1995.
She leaves two sons, Robert Scott of Pittsfield and James Scott of Ghent, N.Y.; two daughters, Gloria Williams, with whom she made her home, and Kathryn Harrison of Cummington; a brother, V.R. Webb of Greenville, Texas; 14 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Jean W. Scott, who died May 16, 2004, will be conducted Wednesday at 2 at Hinsdale Congregational Church by the Rev. David Mangun, interim pastor of Dalton United Methodist Church.
Burial will follow in Maple Street Cemetery in Hinsdale. Calling hours will be today, May 18, from 4 to 7 at BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME.
