John C. "Jack" Moynihan

John C. "Jack" Moynihan, 83, of 8 Delaware Ave. died Saturday at home after a long illness.

Born in Berkshire Village, Lanesboro, on Aug. 27, 1920, son of Cornelius and Rose Moran Moynihan, he moved to Pittsfield as a child and was a 1937 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

Mr. Moynihan worked at GE from 1938 until 1943, when he joined the Army. He served with the 75th Infantry Division, 289th Infantry Regiment, Company F, in the European theater and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged in February 1946.

He returned to GE and worked in the lightning arrestor protective equipment division as a customer service supervisor for most of his career, retiring in 1983. He received several company awards for his innovative ideas.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church for more than 75 years.

He enjoyed playing golf and was a longtime member of Berkshire Hills Country Club. At the top of his game he earned a 3 handicap.

He was a natural at the short game and particularly adept at putting. In 1965, he and his son, Jerry Moynihan, were Berkshire County Allied Father-Son Champions.

He and his wife, the former Ann P. Clairmont of Pittsfield, were married Sept. 18, 1943, at St. Thomas' Church in Adams.

Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, Gerald M. Moynihan of Murrysville, Pa., Patrick C. Moynihan of Lenox, Kevin J. Moynihan of New Canaan, Conn., and David J. Moynihan of Pittsfield; two daughters, Sharon E. Cinney of Ocala, Fla., and Judith C. Yon of Naperville, Ill.; a brother, James E. Moynihan of Pittsfield, and 11 grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for John C. "Jack" Moynihan, who died May 15, 2004, will be Wednesday at 9:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mary the Morning Star Church celebrated by the Rev. Paul Bombardier, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Mr. Moynihan also leaves 11 grandchildren, Ryan, Mark, Timothy, Colin, Tyler, Conor, Brendan and Caragh Moynihan, Christian Yon and Shane and Andrew Burdick; his four daughters-in-law, Janet, Denise, Miriam and Dawn; his two sons-in-law, John Cinney and Kirk Yon, as well as his sisters-in-law, Rita Moynihan and Nancy Moynihan, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by a brother, Francis "Frank" Moynihan, and a grandson, Kyle Moynihan. Memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
