I. Freeda Simon, 84, of 174 Benedict Road died Wednesday evening at home following a short illness.
She had lived in Pittsfield since 1938.
Born in North Adams on Sept. 6, 1919, daughter of Elias and Sarah Joseph George, she was a graduate of the former St. Joseph's High School there. She had also attended the former Pittsfield Secretarial School in Pittsfield.
She had been employed as an executive secretary at GE for seven years.
Mrs. Simon was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a member of its Family Society. She was a past member of the Daughters of Lebanon.
She enjoyed cake decorating, knitting and playing cards.
Her husband, Michael A. Simon, whom she married June 21, 1948, died Oct. 14, 2003.
She leaves a son, James M. Simon of Pittsfield; two daughters, Michele Simon-Grady and Mary Jane Massetti, both of Pittsfield; a brother, Edward T. George of Hamden, Conn., five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for I. Freeda Simon, who died Wednesday, May 12, will be Saturday, May 15, at 8:15 from the DERY FUNERAL HOME followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Mary the Morning Star Church, celebrated by the Rev. Paul A. Bombardier, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Friday, from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St.
Mrs. Simon is survived by her adored grandchildren, Michael and Karen Grady, Kimberley Grady, Scott and Jackie Grady, Laura Simon and Joseph Simon; her cherished great-grandchildren, Emily, Michael Jr., Michaela, Isabelle and Grace Mary Grady, and her devoted sons- and daughters-in-law, Dave Grady, Robert Massetti and Victoria Simon.
She was predeceased by her loving sisters, Amy Ferris, Bess Pularo and Mary Nassif, and her three brothers, Alfred George, George George and Little Eddie George. Her greatest enjoyment in life was her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
