Harold Jacob Linker Jr., 73, of 1029 South St. died Friday evening at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield after a long illness.
Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 28, 1930, son of Harold J. Linker Sr. and Isabelle Dunham Linker, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School, where he was a member of the track team.
A decorated Navy veteran of the Korean War, he served aboard the USS Conway.
Mr. Linker was employed by GE in Pittsfield for 38 years, retiring in 1993 as an inspector. He had worked part time at Burgner's Farm the last three years.
He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion, and had been involved with coaching the American Legion baseball team in his younger years.
An avid Red Sox fan, he also enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He and his wife, the former Shirley F. Watkins, were married July 28, 1956, in St. Mark's Church in Pittsfield.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Hal J. Linker and Raymond J. Linker, both of Pittsfield; a daughter, Daryl A. Horgan of Hinsdale; two brothers, John A. Linker of Orange and Kenneth C. Linker of Pittsfield; a sister, Charlotte Browne of Pittsfield, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Harold J. Linker Jr., 73, who died May 7, 2004, will be held Wednesday at 9:15 at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St., Dalton, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Agnes' Church by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor.
Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in care of the funeral home.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Raymond, James, Bruce and Robert Linker.
