Paul E. Hebert, 86, of 330 Kirchner Road died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in St. John, Quebec, Canada, on April 9, 1918, son of Wilfred and Bernadette Laurin Hebert, he moved to Pittsfield with his family in the late 1920s and attended local schools.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 28th infantry division in the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe campaigns. He was awarded several honors, including the Bronze Star, and was discharged as a staff sergeant in 1945.
Mr. Hebert was employed by GE for 46 years, retiring as manager of shop operations of internal components in 1983. He also worked in GE's capacitor, distribution and power transformer division, and received five managerial awards and the Ralph J. Cordiner Award from G.L. Phillippe, former president of GE, for outstanding achievements during his years of employment.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield and a member of the Sacred Heart Society, the GEAA, the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs, the Elfun Society, the Dalton American Legion, VFW of Pittsfield and the Deputy Sheriffs' Association.
He was a volunteer for the Red Cross, HospiceCare of the Berkshires and Elder Services.
He enjoyed playing bingo, and hunting, fishing and bicycling
His wife, the former Carol I. Sweener, whom he married in 1939, died March 18, 1983.
He leaves four daughters, Joyce Barnaby and Lauren Zatorski, both of Lenox, Carol Ann Cornell of Willow Springs, N.C., and Paula Sebastino of Pittsfield; three sons, Laurence R. Hebert of Suffolk, Va., and Mark A. Hebert and Paul J. Hebert, both of Dalton; two sisters, Helene Hamrich of Lake Placid, Fla., and Margaret Harrington of Boca Raton, Fla.; 17 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Paul E. Hebert, 86, who died Saturday, May 8, 2004, will be Wednesday at 8:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor.
Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
