Jeanette G. Tallman, 86, of 101 Orlando Ave. died Thursday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on March 2, 1918, daughter of Philip and Natalie Rimbold Gelinas, she was a 1936 graduate of the former Dalton High School. She attended Simmons College in Boston and was a 1941 graduate of Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing.
Mrs. Tallman's first position was as a registered nurse at Mass. General Hospital. She also worked at GE as a design draftsman and was church secretary at First United Methodist Church of Pittsfield for 10 years.
She retired in 1963 from the Berkshire Economic Development Commission, where she had been an administrative assistant.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Pittsfield and active in several civic groups. She was past secretary of Wisdom chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, past worthy matron of the Collina chapter of the OES, a member of Melha Temple and a volunteer at Shriners' Hospital.
Mrs. Tallman had received many awards for her service in fund raising. She was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross, a Daughter of the Nile and a past president of the Berkshire County Diabetes Association. For many years, she and her husband were president of most of the square dance clubs in Berkshire County.
She and her husband, Francis Tallman, celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary April 15.
Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Lawrence Tallman of Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Rose Marie Beasley of Sylmar, Calif.; three grandchildren; a step-grandson, and a great-grandson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Jeanette Tallman, who died April 29, 2004, will be conducted Tuesday at 11 at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Roger A. Davis, pastor of First United Methodist Church.
Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Dalton. Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the funeral home. Survivors include Mrs. Tallman's daughter-in-law, Cindy Tallman.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Shriners' Hospital in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
