Robert Samuel Najimy Sr

Robert Samuel Najimy Sr., 71, of 53 Onota St. died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Alston on Dec. 1, 1932, son of Charles and Margaret Smart Najimy, he was a 1950 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He also graduated from the GE apprentice course in tool and die making, becoming a master at the trade.

Mr. Najimy was employed by GE for 43 years, retiring in 1994.

As a teenager, he became interested in physical fitness and body building. He entered a number of bodybuilding competitions as a member of the Pittsfield YMCA, where he was also a handball player.

He was a Massachusetts state representative of the National Federation of Personal Trainers, a longtime member of Berkshire Nautilus and a personal trainer.

He judged competitions and administered the personal trainer certification examination in Boston.

His wife, the former Nancy Morse, died in January 1992.

He leaves a son, Robert S. Najimy Jr. of Pittsfield; two sisters, Vivien Delgado of Dalton and Sister Miriam Najimy, Daughters of the Heart of Mary of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; a brother, Charles Najimy of Pittsfield, and three grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral will be Friday at 8:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at St. Mark's Church by the Rev. John Salatino, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, April 29, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Susan B. Koman National Foundation for breast cancer in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.

He was predeceased by a brother, Norman Najimy, in 1997. Robert S. Najimy Sr., 71, who died Tuesday, April 27, 2004, is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Kerri Nicholas Najimy; his beloved grandchildren, Sheree, Molly and Sydney Najimy; a brother-in-law, Emi Delgado; two sisters-in-law, Cheri Najimy and Jacqueline Najimy; several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and - nephews, all of whom loved him dearly and will miss his presence in their lives.
