Catherine B. Hallock

Catherine B. Hallock, 91, of 16 Prichard St., Fitchburg, formerly of Dalton, died Thursday at home.

Born in Dalton on July 5, 1912, daughter of Buel and Celia Gaddis Silliman, she graduated from the former Dalton High School in 1930 and from the former Berkshire Business College in 1932.

She moved to Fitchburg many years ago, and had also resided in Mason, N.H., for a time.

Mrs. Hallock was employed as an operator by the former New England Telehone Co. for 30 years. Before that, she had worked for her late brother-in-law, Louis Smith, at his Electric Motors in Fitchburg.

She was a member of Faith United Church in Fitchburg, and was active with Friends of the Fitchburg Public Library and the Fitchburg Historical Society.

She had previously been active with the Methodist Church in Fitchburg and the Congregational Church in Mason, including its Ladies' Aid society.

She was a trained classical vocalist and pianist, and sang with a band in her youth.

She leaves two daughters, Mary Irene Cooper of Leominster and Ruth Ann Couture of Fitchburg, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- At the request of Catherine B. Hallock, who died April 22, 2004, burial in Dalton will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lorinn Couture-Callwood Scholarship Fund at St. Joseph's School, 35 Columbus St., Fitchburg, MA 01420. BOSK FUNERAL HOME, 85 Blossom St., is assisting with arrangements.

Kay was known for her generosity and kindness to others. Her sense of humor and laughter got her into hot water more than once. She was well loved by all. Survivors include her sons-in-law, Robert Cooper and Deacon Jim Couture.

A granddaughter, Lorinn Couture-Callwood, died in 2002, and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Silliman and M. Irene Smith predeceased her.
