Henry Melideo

Henry Melideo, 79, of 24 Fairview Ave. died Thursday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 17, 1924, son of Adamo and Maria Petrella Melideo, he attended Pittsfield schools.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and participated in the invasion of Saipan and Tinian. He received several citations.
Mr. Melideo was employed by GE in the former power transformer department for 37 years, retiring in 1985.
He was shop steward, active in union affairs and a sergeant-at-arms.
He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church, a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners clubs, and active with the Democratic Party in Pittsfield.
He enjoyed fishing.
His wife, the former Dorothy M. Cahalan, whom he married May 3, 1947, in St. Teresa's Church, died Oct. 27, 2003.
He leaves two daughters, Christine Budney MacPike of Shalimar, Fla., and Abbie A. Gore of Ipswich; a brother, Anthony Melideo of Pittsfield, and four grandchildren
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Henry Melideo, who died April 22, 2004, will be Tuesday, April 27, at 9 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 at Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor.
Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday, April 26, from 4 to 7. Donations in Mr. Melideo's memory may be made to the American Heart Association, Western Massachusetts Region, in care of the funeral home.
Survivors include four grandchildren, Nikolos M. Budney of Birmingham, Ala., Shawn C. Budney of Jacksonville, Fla., Drew M. Gore of Ipswich and Maggie Gore of Ipswich. He was predeceased by a brother, Albert Melideo, and a sister, Elsie Chestnut.
