James R. Durant

James R. Durant, 62, of 202 Dewey Ave. died Tuesday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on June 16, 1941, son of Harold R. and Mary E. Doran Durant, he graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1959.
He served in the Army with the Fourth Armored Division and was stationed in Alaska and, from 1963 to 1967, in Germany.
Mr. Durant worked as a locksmith for a few years and, briefly, as a police officer in the Pittsfield Police Department.
He was employed by the former Berkshire Hilton Inn in the security department and worked as a cab driver for many years.
He was a member of Pittsfield Post 68 of the American Legion and enjoyed archery, hunting and fishing.
His wife, the former Margaret "Peggy" Elsworth, died May 30, 2001.
He leaves a son, James D. Durant of Lanesboro, and two granddaughters.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Graveside services with military honors will be held Monday at 2:30 in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends are asked to gather at the main gate at 2, with a gathering to follow at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 448.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VFW Post 448 in care of WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. He also leaves his very good friend and caregiver, David Gomes Sr. of Pittsfield.
