Silvio Joseph DeVergilio

Silvio Joseph DeVergilio, 86, of 329 Pittsfield Road, Devonshire Estates, formerly of Alfred Drive in Pittsfield, died yesterday morning at home.
Born in Pittsfield on April 17, 1918, son of Sabatino and Eda DeVergilio, he was a 1936 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a prisoner of war in Germany for the last several months of the war. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern service medal with five Bronze Stars and was discharged with the rank of staff sergeant.
He was employed by GE Naval Ordnance for 42 years, retiring in 1979. Following retirement, he worked for one year at the former Clark Aiken Co. in Lee, and from 1980 to 1997 was a self-employed real estate broker.
Mr. DeVergilio was a communicant of All Souls' Church in Pittsfield.
He was a member and former chairman of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners clubs.
He was also a member of the Society of United Commercial Travelers, D.A.V. Chapter 15 of Pittsfield and the Father Cantino-Mount Carmel Post Italian American War Veterans, and the Western Massachusetts Ex-Prisoners of War Association.
His wife, the former Santina Torrero, whom he married July 16, 1945, in Mount Carmel Church in Pittsfield, died Dec. 3, 2002.
He leaves a daughter, Patricia A. Kellar of Lanesboro; a son, Richard J. DeVergilio of Hadley; a sister, Antoinette Pannozzo of Pittsfield, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Silvio J. DeVergilio will be Saturday at 8 from the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME in Lenox, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at All Souls Church, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel B. Brunton, chaplain at Providence Care Center of Lenox.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pittsfield. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Mr. DeVergilio is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Larry Menin, Meg DeVergilio, Mitchell Kellar and Jessica DeVergilio; great grandchildren Keith and Luke Menin; his son-in-law, George M. Kellar, and daughter-in-law Betsy DeVergilio.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial donations to the Lenox Council on Aging in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
