Louise Corrine Dwyer, 103, a resident of Hillcrest Commons since July 2002, died Monday morning at Berkshire Medical Center.
She had previously resided at the former Young's Rest Home for many years.
Born in Pittsfield on April 6, 1901, daughter of Thomas J. and Rose Brielman Dolan, she was educated in local schools.
She had resided in Lenox.
Mrs. Dwyer and her husband, Clarence "Honey" Dwyer, were the proprietors of the former Dwyer's Hi-Way Diner. At one time, she had worked at the former Eaton, Crane & Pike Co.
She was primarily a homemaker.
She was a communicant of St. Teresa's Church. While at Young's Rest Home, she enjoyed participating in many social activities there, such as playing cards.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling.
On her 100th birthday, she was honored with citations from President Bush, Gov. Paul Cellucci, U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy, U.S. Rep. John Olver and state Rep. Christopher Hodgkins, as well as from the U.S. House of Representatives, state Senate, town of Lenox and the city of Pittsfield.
Her husband, whom she married Aug. 21, 1921, died June 8, 1973.
She leaves a grandniece, Eileen Duplis of Ormond Beach, Fla.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Louise Corrine Dolan Dwyer, who died Monday, April 19, 2004, will be Thursday, April 22, at 9:15 at DERY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Teresa's Church by the Rev. John J. Varley, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in care of funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
Mrs. Dwyer also is survived by a great-grandniece, Cindy Knapp, a great-grandnephew, William Duplis; three great-great-nephews, and many devoted friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Edward W. Dolan, and a sister, Anna Duplis, and two nephews, William E. Duplis, late of Spring Hill, Fla., and Robert M. Duplis, late of Longwood, Fla.
