Jack W. Browne I

Jack W. Browne I, 80, of 25 Britton St. died Tuesday at Orlando South Seminole Hospital in Longwood, Fla.

Born in Pittsfield on July 30, 1923, son of Herbert H. and Elizabeth Cotton Browne, he was educated in local schools and is a 1942 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 until 1946 as a corporal in the 9201st Technical Service Unit, Transportation Division.

Mr. Browne was employed for 17 years as an electrician at GE, retiring in August 1985. Previously he was employed in the same capacity at the former Wyandotte Worsted Co.

He was also co-owner with his father-in-law and brother-in-law of the former M & B Electric. He also worked at the former Stone and Webster Electric Co.

A member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, he was also a 45-year member of American Legion Post 68 and a member of the former Model Railroad Club.

He was an avid fisherman here and in Florida.

He and his wife, the former Elsie Munsinger, were married May 8, 1942, in St. Stephen's Church and would have celebrated their 62nd anniversary in May.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Jack W. Browne II of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; a daughter, Nancy Koziol of Pittsfield; a brother, Victor "Red" Browne of Pittsfield and three grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Jack W. Browne I, 80, who died April 13, 2004, will be Monday at 10 at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., with the Rev. James Dannals, pastor of St. Stephen's Church, officiating. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7.

Burial will follow at Pittsfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home. He leaves a daughter-in-law, LuAnn Browne; a son-in-law, Joseph Koziol; his sisters-in-law, Frances Browne and Charlotte Browne and Sadie Woodard.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mark Joseph Koziol and Gregory and Christopher Browne and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by another grandson, Daniel Koziol, and two brothers, Herbert and Sidney Browne.
