Floyd J. "Jay" Bennett, 55, of 215 Dalton Division Road died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center after a long illness.
Born in Franklin, N.J., on May 28, 1948, son of June Forgacs Bennett and the late Floyd J. Bennett , he was a 1966 graduate of Mount Greylock Regional High School.
He lived in Williamstown and Cheshire before moving to Dalton 10 years ago. He also attended the Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts.
He was employed as a welder fabricator in the power transformer department of GE for 23 years, retiring in 1993. At one time he worked for GE in Schenectady, N.Y.
He later worked for Sampco Industries and retired from Lenco Industries in 1999.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the Night Stalkers Bass Club.
Besides his mother of Pomona Park, Fla., he leaves his wife, the former Christina Will, whom he married April 10, 1971, in Williamstown; a son, Daniel Jay Bennett of Vienna, Va.; a daughter, Tara Ann Bennett of Alexandria, Va.; four sisters, Joanne E. Higgins of Palatka, Fla., Jannette L. Baker of Hamburg, N.J., June M. Trent of Jacksonville, Fla., and Diana I. Trent of Pomona Park, Fla.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- There will be no funeral services for Floyd J. "Jay" Bennett, who died at Berkshire Medical Center on Thursday, April 8, 2004. The family plans to scatter the ashes at a future date.
There are no calling hours. If friends desire, donations may be made in Mr. Bennett's memory to the Floyd J. Bennett Memorial Fund in care of the DWYER FUNERAL HOME, which is handling arrangements.
