Stella Marie Carey

Stella Marie Carey, 53, of 27 Easton Ave. died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center after a six-year battle with ovarian cancer.

Born in North Adams on June 27, 1950, daughter of Lawrence D. and Sara N. Candiloro Roulier of Adams, she attended schools in Adams and North Adams, and graduated in 1968 from the former St. Joseph's High School in North Adams.

She graduated in 1972 from the former North Adams State College.

Mrs. Carey had been employed by Healthy Families of Pittsfield as a home visitor for 18 months until December 2002. Prior to that, she worked at the Norman Rockwell Early Childhood Center at Berkshire Community College for 13 years. During her last few years there, she was the lead toddler teacher.

She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, where she had once taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine classes.

She had been involved with the Boys' and Girls' Club swim team and enjoyed crafts, including ceramics and creating stamped greeting cards.

Besides her parents, she leaves her husband, William J. Carey, whom she married Sept. 29, 1973, in Notre Dame Church in Adams; a daughter, Katherine M. Carey of Albany, N.Y., and two sisters, Joanne M. Lincoln of North Adams and Nancy C. Wilk of Cheshire.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Stella M. Carey, who died April 9, 2004, will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 in Sacred Heart Church by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., will be tomorrow, April 12, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.

Stella is lovingly survived by three nephews, Andrew Wilk and Brian and Patrick Carey; a niece, Mary Wilk; three brothers-in-law, Todd Lincoln, Joseph Wilk and John E. Carey Jr.; a sister-in-law, Gerrie Carey, and her beloved pet dog, Rufus.
