Robert C. Hare

Robert C. Hare, 65, of Main Street, Douglas, formerly of Pittsfield, died Saturday at home.

Born in Northbridge on Oct. 19, 1938, son of Richard C. Hare of Whitinsville and the late Ruth E. Clemence Hare, he graduated in 1956 from Sutton High School and in 1960 from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He received his master's degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara.

He resided in California for 20 years, then in Pittsfield for 19 years before moving to Douglas last year.

Mr. Hare was an electrical engineer and systems analyst for GE in Pittsfield and Santa Barbara for more than 30 years, retiring in 1994.

While in Pittsfield, he enjoyed keeping a small farm and producing maple syrup.

He and his wife, the former Maribelle A. Holmes, would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary May 30.

Besides his wife and father, he leaves two sons, Rod Hare of Santa Barbara and Dan Hare of Seattle; two daughters, Colleen Covarrubias of Santa Barbara and Lorelei Hare of Douglas; three brothers, David Hare of Douglas, Timothy Hare of Sutton and Charles Hare of Tolland, Conn.; three sisters, Marilyn Kaye of Webster, Carolyn Thomas of Centerville and Virginia Malo of Douglas, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Robert C. Hare, who died April 3, 2004, will be Saturday, April 10, at 10 in the chapel of BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 480 Church St., in the Whitinsville section of Northbridge.

Burial will follow in South Sutton Cemetery, Hough Road, Sutton. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Friday, April 9, from 6 to 8, and Saturday, April 10, from 9 to 10 prior to the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Douglas Fire Department, in care of EMTs, 64 Main St., P.O. Box 222, Douglas, MA 01516, or to the VNA Care Network of Southboro, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01618.
