Richard R. Rabideau

Richard R. Rabideau, 64, of 16A Duncan Drive, South Deerfield, formerly of Pittsfield, died Saturday at North Shore University Hospital in Syosset, N.Y., after suffering a heart attack.

Born in Pittsfield on July 3, 1939, son of Raymond and Ursula Carmel Rabideau, he was a 1957 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

He served in the Navy for two years, eight months of that time in the Mediterranean.

At the time of his death, Mr. Rabideau was vice president of Wilson's Department Store in Greenfield, where he had worked for 15 years. Before that, he was a department manager and longtime employee of the former England Brothers department store and shoe manager of the former Forbes & Wallace in Springfield.

He was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church in Greenfield, and a former communicant of St. James' Church in Deerfield and St. Teresa's Church in Pittsfield. An active member of the United Way, he served on the allocations committee for both the Berkshire and Greenfield chapters.

He was a former board member of the Greenfield YMCA and was a captain with its sustaining membershp campaign. He was a member of the Greenfield Chamber of Commerce and had been active in the Catholic Charities campaign in Deerfield and Pittsfield.

While in Pittsfield, he also had been president, vice president and treasurer of the former Pittsfield Downtown Associates, finance chairman and a member of the executive board of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine at St. Teresa's Church, a member of the board of directors of the Pittsfield Boys' Club youth hockey program, a past president of the Camp Fire Girls and a member of the Pittsfield High School parent advisory council.

He was a member of the Volunteers in Probation, a program that provided counseling for young probationers. He enjoyed gardening and was a Red Sox fan.

He and his wife, the former Concetta M. Cozzolino, would have celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary July 15. They were married in All Souls' Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Renee M. Solis of Northboro and Nicole C. Rabideau of Jamaica Plain; two sons, Richard M. Rabideau of Longmeadow and Steven P. Rabideau of Northboro; two sisters, Patricia A. Rabideau of Pittsfield and Carol R. Taylor of Wallingford, Conn., and eight grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Richard R. "Dick" Rabideau, 64, formerly of Pittsfield, who died April 13, 2004, will be held Wednesday at 10:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 at St. Teresa's Church by the Rev. John Varley, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. He also leaves eight grandchildren, Sara, Daniel and Abigail Solis, and Nick, Mike, Brett, Amanda and Brian Rabideau.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners' Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
