Mary C. "Marion" Hurley

Mary C. "Marion" Hurley, 90, died Monday at Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow.
She was the mother of William J. Hurley of Dalton.
Born in Springfield, daughter of Thomas J. and Rosanna B. Lynch Lynch, she graduated from the former Classical High School there and earned her teaching degree from the former Westfield Normal School, now Westfield State College.
She had resided in Springfield for most of her life.
One of the Springfield Diocese's first lay teachers, Mrs. Hurley taught for more than 40 years, most recently at St. Matthew's Parish in Indian Orchard. She also taught in the parishes of St. Ursaline and Holy Family, both in Springfield.
She first taught elementary school in the Manchester, Conn., school system for 10 years.
Her husband, Joseph A. Hurley, died June 24, 1992.
Besides her son, she leaves another son, Thomas J. Hurley of Wilbraham; a daughter, Rosemary B. Herberger of Springfield, and five grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mary C. "Marion" Hurley, who died March 29, 2004, will be this morning, April 1, at 8 from T.P. SAMPSON'S CHAPEL OF THE ACRES, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA 01129, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 in Holy Name Church and Rites of Committal in St. Michael's Cemetery, all in Springfield.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be this morning from 8 to 9:15. Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph at Mont Marie, 34 Lower Westfield Road, Holyoke, MA 01040.
Survivors include two daughters-in-law, Ann U. Hurley and Sheila D. Hurley; a son-in-law, George T. Herberger; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth R. Hurley, and five grandchildren, Sara E. McFadden, Megan K. and Kathryn M. Hurley and Christopher J. and Joseph H. Herberger.
