David Shaun Sedgwick

David Shaun Sedgwick, 61, of 31 Salinger Court, Coto de Caza, Calif., formerly of Pittsfield, died Saturday at home after an extended illness.
Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 23, 1942, son of Volney M. and Florence Matthews Sedgwick, he graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1960.
He served in the Navy for four years.
Mr. Sedgwick was president and owner of Encompass Recruiting, an engineering placement firm in Mission Viejo, Calif. In 1995, he had founded five placement agencies that serviced the technology market in California's bay area. His latest company was established in 2002, and had included recruiting for the biotechnology field.
He also had a long career in sales, and was employed as a vice president of sales nationally with companies such as Gillette, Buxton, DayTimer and Gary's.
He was a member of New Community Church in Irvine, Calif.
He played baseball in a number of leagues in Pittsfield as a young man, and enjoyed swing dancing, playing golf and taking Caribbean cruises.
He also was a wine connoisseur and collector.
He and his wife, the former Beverly Davidson, were married Feb. 19, 1997, in Newport Beach, Calif.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, David Shaun Sedgwick II of Santa Ana, Calif.; two daughters, Shannell Angela Sedgwick and Shannon Colleen Sedgwick of Dana Point, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Andrea Garrett of Long Beach, Calif.; a brother, Philip C. Sedgwick of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two sisters, Sharron A. Parzick of Coto de Caza and and Pamela M. Penttila of Hubbardston, his former wife, C. LuAnn Baxter of Dana Point, and a grandson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for David S. Sedwick was held March 22 at 2 at New Community Church in Irvine, Calif., with Pastor Tim Timmons officiating. A celebration of David's life followed at his home. His remains will be scattered at Gen. John Sedgwick Cemetery in Cornwall, Conn., at a later date. David will be sadly missed by family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Volney and Florence, and his stepmother, Thelma Jane Neff Sedgwick of Kansas City, Mo. David significantly touched many lives with his love, compassion and generosity. He possessed unshakable faith, quick wit, good humor and truly enjoyed helping those in need. He had a long struggle with inoperable cancer; therefore, those who wish may make donations to the American Cancer Fund in his name.

His great recent interest was taking Caribbean cruises with his wife.
