Sol Toscher

Sol Toscher, 86, of Delray Beach, Fla., formerly of Pittsfield, died Friday at home.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Dec. 18, 1917, son of David and Molly Toscher, he was raised in Denver but graduated from high school in New York City.

He also attended the University of Alabama.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Mr. Toscher was employed as an analyst at General Electric Co., focusing on manufacturing engineering, which seeks to implement practical approaches to improving products and reducing costs. He retired in 1979. He had first worked in sales.

He was a longtime member of Knesset Israel Congregation.

His late wife, the former Rita Levine, was a longtime hospital librarian for the Berkshire Athenaeum. They were married in the late 1930s.

He leaves a sister, Clare Kruzel of the state of Florida.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Sol Toscher, 86, formerly of Pittsfield, died in Delray Beach, Florida, on March 19, 2004. He was the husband of the late Rita L. Toscher. The funeral will be today, March 22, at 1 at Knesset Israel Congregation, with Rabbi Harold Salzmann officiating.

Burial will follow in Knesset Israel Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at the Crowne Plaza immediately following the burial. There will be no calling hours. He is survived by a sister, Clare Kruzel, his sisters-in-law, Frances Mendelsohn and Ruth Kronick, and nine nieces and nephews.

Donations in his memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. He was an active contributor to charities, including the Berkshire Athenaeum and the Berkshire Museum. He is remembered for his lifelong enthusiastic support of his extended family.
